Research and Planning-Evaluating My College Magazine
I think my magazine cover fits to criteria for appealing to college students, it contains a colour scheme that the college uses and also contains an image of a student in the college. I also think it looks clear and is easy to understand. I think the layout looks quite effective as all the key characteristics of a college magazine are inplace on it. The fonts used for the masthead are different than that of the story headlines and contents page. I think I used ICT well to create my design, I used InDesign. I used bold and clear text and also a large, central medium close up image on my cover. However, I should have used images on the context page. I think the photographs I took around college for the magazine cover were relatively good, the one I used was the most apporopriate in my opinion. I feel that I manipulated the photograph well as it didn't become pixilated or look squashed/stretched. Generally I am pleased with my design and think it looks appealing and fits the criteria well.

Research and Planning-Front Cover and Contents Drafts
I drew two rough drafts of what I want on my college magazine cover and contents. This was basically so that I knew how to lay out my designs.

Research and Planning-Audience Research
We went around the college and asked several students some questions about the college magazine. These questions were as followed:
1. What do you associate with college?
2. What stories would you like to read about?
3. How much are you willing to pay?
4. What sports activities would you like to be featured in the magazine?
5. What features would you like to be in the magazine to make it appeal to you?
We will use the answers as a guide to what features we will have in our college magazines.
These answers have shown me that most people associate college with work and being social/meeting new people. We need to write articles about activities/events that go on in college. The average desired price is around 50p. Most people were interested in football. It has to have some good, interesting articles.

Research and Planning-Characteristics of a College Magazine Cover
The magazine cover has a main image of a female student who looks as though she has just received results.
There are stories on it that are relevant to college such as EMA and the college enrichment programme.
In the bottom right of the cover there is a barcode.
There is also a masthead - Westvic Weekly.
Colour scheme-blue and white.
In my front cover design I will need:
A main image
Masthead
Barcode
Issue number
Slugline
Stories
Colour scheme
Indesign Film Review
I copy and pasted a film review of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides from http://www.empireonline.com/reviews/
I changed the layout to columns and placed the text inside the two columns.
I added an image also from empireonline.com/reviews.
I added a title.
I then changed the background colour to a light blue by clicking the box tool, changing the colour and then selecting the page, I then clicked object, arrange then bring forward to make the colour go behind the text.

Reasearch and Planning-Film Poster Photoshop
I took the face of Will from The Inbetweeners and placed it on a film poster for Harry Potter, I used the marquee tool and move tool.
Research and Planning-Photoshop Challenge
First I opened an A4 document in Photoshop to work on, I did this by clicking file then new. Next I clicked the text tool and typed 'AS Media Studies' onto the page and changed the font to 'Century Gothic' and the size to 24. I then selected the text and changed the font colour to red, then I used the move tool to centre my text. I then selected the background and used the paint bucket tool to change the background blue. Next I gave the text a drop shadow by go selecting the text, clicking layer, layer style, drop shadow and then selecting what sizes I want. I went on the internet and saved a picture of Rihanna which I then opened in Photoshop. I used the move tool to place the image on the document. I used the brush tool and selected what colour I wanted. I then changed the colour of the hair using the brush tool. Finally I drew a border around the image by clicking layer, layer style then stroke.

Research and Planning-Skin Tutorial
In Photoshop I first used the spot healing brush tool to cover up any unwanted spots and blemishes. I then used the brush tool to give the picture eye-shadow, lipstick, blusher, eyelashes and a new hair colour. Each time I changed the colour so I could use the desired colour for different parts of the picture and I also changed the opacity of the brush tool.

Research and planning: Introduction to Photoshop.
I used Photoshop to create a CD cover. I used the magic wand tool to cut out the images of a CD and a musical instrument and then used the move tool to move them onto the desired background. I then used the text tool to place my name on the cover. I then went on distort, then wave to make the back ground wavy. I then went on adjustments and shadow to create an outer shadows for the 2 images and an outer glow for the text.
