Research and Planning-Collage
I created a collage out of music magazine clippings that are similar to the genre of magazine that I'm going to create. I used things like mastheads, photographs and articles from the magazines 'Q' and 'Kerrang'. From doing this I can see most bands in the genre I am choosing consist of mainly males. Also I should use a colour scheme of red, white and black and also bold fonts. I saw that most of the artists in this genre are bands rather solo artists.

Research and Planning-Questionnaire Results
Above is the questionnaire that I created on Microsoft Word. I printed out 10 copies and handed them out randomly around the class. the questions asked were in relation to my music magazine such as "What would you most like to find in a music magazine?"
I then used charts on PowerPoint to put my results into pie-charts. My results are shown below.

Research and Planning-Contents Page Analysis
The genre of the magazine is indie/rock. This can be easily distinguished by the bands that are featured on the page that fit this genre. The target audience is teenagers that are aged 15 to around 19 that are mainly male but also some females too. They also probably attend quite a lot of gigs and are interested in live music, I can tell that by the bottom right of the page where it says "The UK's number 1 gig guide starts p58." This feature of the magazine is put in and displayed clearly to appeal to that type of person. Across the top of the contents page displayed clearly and designed to be eye-catching it says "NME THIS WEEK". This clearly shows that everything on the page will be featured in that issue of the magazine. Down the left hand side of the page it says "band index" with a large list of bands and the page number(s) that they feature on in that issue. This tells us the magazine mainly focuses on bands rather than solo artists. It also makes it more convenient for the reader if they are only interested in reading about certain bands in that issue.
Down the far right of the page it has different headings such as: "NEWS" and "REVIEWS" then has page numbers underneath and a brief summary of some of the articles that fall under each particular category. This also makes it easier for the reader to identify certain things they want to read about, for example if they are only interested in reading about live events such as concerts then they can just look under that heading and find the page numbers. the centre of the page contains a large imaged and an out-take of one of the main articles from the issue, in this case it happens o be called, "The moment that...Kasabian got romantic in a church" This writing is in bold font to draw in readers attention as does the imaged, its one of the first things your eye is drawn to when you look at the page. This is done to encourage the reader to read on and read the rest of the article. At the bottom of the page is an advert to subscribe to the magazine. This is bold and eye-catching and trys to persuade the reader by saying "save over £45". The page sticks to the magazine colour scheme of red, white and black. The central image is a long shot of a live performance. This also conveys that the target audience are interested in attending gigs and live music.
Research and Planning-Music Magazine Audience
Categorizing my audience:
Age: The target age of my magazine will be teenagers from around the age of 15-19 years old.
Gender: The target gender is of the magazine is probably both male and female. There are bands that appeal to both boys and girls that will be featured in the magazine.
Occupation: The audience will most likely be in education, either high school or college, probably in university too.
Class: There isn't really a set class of people who are interested in this kind of music, however its probably more aimed at working/middle class people.
Wealth: Not extremely wealthy especially if students, most likely on minimum wage but maybe they spend money on gigs.
Interests: Listening to music, singing/playing instruments (maybe in a band), going to gigs, socializing with friends.
Outlook for the future: Maybe going to university/college or getting a job.
How are you going to reach them: Gig reviews, dates and images from gigs they be interested in or may have gone to. The gig dates page will keep them informed of any upcoming gigs of bands they are interested in seeing live. Could also use photos from concerts and bright colours.
I think this photo is representative of my target audience.

Research & Planning-Magazine Masthead Trials
This is a potential masthead I may use for my music magazine. I downloaded the 'neon' font from dafont.com and put it on a red background using photoshop and also changed the text colour to white.
Above is another potential design for my magazine masthead. I downloaded the font 'Swinkydad' from dafont.com and changed the text colour to black. I then used phtoshop to place it on a black background.
A third possible idea for my magazine masthead. Again I downloaded a font from dafont.com, this was a font called 'rainyday'. I changed the color to red and placed it on a white background.
In all 3 of these ideas I have used my research which showed me that most of the magazines used a colour scheme of red, white and black.

Research and Planning-Music Magazine Analysis
This magazine is also indie/rock as it's the same magazine that I analyzed before but with a different cover. On the front cover is a medium close up image of Arctic Monkeys. This tells me straight away that the genre of this magazine is indie/rock, I can also tell this from other band names featured such as The Strokes. The cover uses a colour scheme of white and red. The main headlines/band names are written in white and the subheadings are in red. Also the name of the magazine "Q" is bold and in white, on a white background which makes it clear and stand out; this would instantly grab your attention on the shelf of a shop. The target audience is teenagers, I know that Arctic Monkeys have a large number of teenage fans so this magazine issue will definitely appeal to them. Also in the top left it says "the ultimate festival guide" most people who go to festivals are teenagers and young adults so this also tells me that the magazine is aimed at this group of people. In the photo of Artic Monkeys the lead singer (Alex Turner) takes up most of the space and the rest of the band members are in the background. This shows us instantly that he is the lead singer and probably the person that the readers are most interested in.

Research and Planning-Music Magazine Analysis
The genre of this magazine is rock/indie. It mainly focuses on bands which I can tell from the photograph and the names of bands e.g. Foo Fighters and Muse. Uses a white and red colour scheme.
The target audience of this magazine are teenagers and people who like rock/indie music. I can tell this by the image and the list of bands on the cover that fit this genre. The image of the singer and guitarist (Dave Grohl-Foo Fighters) makes me think that he is passionate about his music, this also makes me think readers of this magazine will be passionate about that style of music. the magazine cover contains larger fonts for the main parts of the magazine issue, in this case 'Foo Fighters' stands out. The name of the magazine also stands out.
