Magazine Cover Progress So Far

This is what my magazine cover currently looks like. Down the left side I have put the main stories of the articles in this issue of the magazine. I think this looks better than my previous idea of having the stories in the red boxes. It also ties in with the black and white colour scheme. When looking at other cover magazine covers that use a similar lay out I found the stories usually go down the left hand side of the page which is what I have done.

Magazine Cover Progress and Ideas

The images down the right hand side of the front cover are where I am going to place several photographs, these will be 4 free posters that come with the magazine. Also I rotated the main cover picture as I think the other other images looked better on the far left. At the bottom of the main image I will put some story titles. This idea is based on a 'Kerrang' magazine front cover in which it uses a similar layout for its front cover. This magazine cover also uses a black and white photograph for the main front cover image.

Research and Planning-Model Release Form

Research and Planning-Choosing the main photograph

I have chosen this photograph to be the main one that will featured on the front cover of my music magazine. I picked this photo out of them all as I think it fits my chosen genre best and also shows the bass guitar which is relevant to the magazine name. Also when researching photo-shoots for this genre they are usually featured in quite derelict looking locations. I feel this is the same for this photo. I think the contrast of black and white also gives it a sharp effect.

Research and Planning-Magazine Photographs

Over the Christmas holidays I used an SLR camera to take photographs for my music magazine cover and also the double page spread.

When taking these photo I found that the 'black and white' affect gave the picture a sharper quality and looked a lot better than when in colour. I also think that black and white images would tie in well with my colour scheme of the magazine as that also uses lots of black and white. When researching magazine covers and photo-shoots for my chosen genre I found that a large number of those photos were also in black and white. This will make my magazine genre more widely recognized.

I took around 25 photographs and the above are the ones that I thought were the best. I'm not sure which I'm going to use but several of them will be featuring on my magazine cover and on the double paged spread. I'm thinking of using one of the outdoor photographs in which my model can be seen posing with a bass guitar. This will be relevant to the genre of my music magazine (indie/rock) and also to the name of the magazine "Bass". However, I may use the last photograph as I think the sharp contras between the white of the model and the dark background gives a good effect and also would make it sound out and draw the eye.

Research and Planning-Serif Fonts

For my double page spread article I am going to use a serif font.
